Death of bodybuilder Rich Piana

Richard Eugene Piana, which also known as Rich Piana, was an American bodybuilder and businessman. He won the International Federation of Bodybuilders Mr. Teen California title in 1989, IFBB Mr. California in 1998 and National Physique Committee competitions in 2003 and 2009. He had his own nutrition product line called Rich Piana: 5% Nutrition.

On 10 August 2017, Rich Piana collapsed in his home and was placed in a medically induced coma shortly after. The former Mr. California had spoken openly about his 27 years history of steroid use before he died as stated in a 2016 YouTube video. Police also claimed that they found 20 bottles of testosterone at his home at the time of his collapse, Piana’s girlfriend also told the police that he had previously been diagnosed with an enlarged heart due to long term steroids use. The heart is a muscle and one of the most important aspects of health of that muscle is flexibility and its ability to pump enough blood in delivering oxygen to the entire body. If the heart muscle gets bigger and thicker, it becomes less flexible and less efficient at pushing blood throughout the body. Eventually, this caused heart failure and put him into a coma.

Aziz Sergeyevich Shavershian, also known as Zyzz, was a Russian-born Australian bodybuilder, personal trainer and model. On the outside, Zyzz appeared to be fit and healthy, but beneath the tan, protruding abs, and overall chiseled physique, was a concoction of steroids, brewing in Zyzz’s young body. During 2011, Zyzz went on a holiday to Thailand – a popular destination for young Aussies, but also a hotspot for cheap drugs, including anabolic steroids. Whilst on holiday in Bangkok, Zyzz was found unconscious in a sauna. Soon after, he was pronounced dead.
